Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. Few people are aware that Puerto Rico has a high number of children diagnosed with autism. This condition affects the welfare and quality of life of the children who manifest it, as well as, their families and loved ones.
Our friends at Gallo Negro are aware that autism is a condition that demands special attention, that is why they have teamed up with JM Vision Enterprise to create the “JM Kids Foundation”. The foundation’s mission is to reach the population of autistic children and their family members. They also wish to serve as a support system to these children in Puerto Rico and adjacent islands. On Wednesday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m., Gallo Negro will open its doors to host a fundraiser for children with autism. The event is titled Art Cocktail Night for Autism and it will feature various local artists who will showcase their works of art, as well as, a creative cocktail menu for all those in attendance.
All the money raised in Art Cocktail Night for Autism will be used to purchase items, surfing equipment, and to cover the operational costs of SURF4DEM Inc. For those of you not familiar with this non-profit organization, their purpose is to offer autistic children therapeutic services through surfing. Each therapy lasts 45 minutes and costs $50.00. Unfortunately, many parents do not have the resources or help necessary to cover the costs of the surfing therapy. Therefore, we urge you to help this beautiful community by taking part in this event. If you can’t make it, make sure to put in your donation to support this great cause.
